Staining is a village and civil parish located on the coastal plain of Fylde. In the 2011 Census, the parish had a population of 2,290. Historically, the village formed part of of a township named Hardhorn-with-Newton. However, now the hamlet of Newton is contained with the civil parish of Staining; with Hardhorn belonging to Poulton-le-Fylde.
